Archbishop José H. Gomez delivered a homily on March 26 during a special Mass marking the 25th anniversary of his episcopal ordination.

The event highlighted Gomez’s reflections on his service and the significance of faith within the Catholic community. As Archbishop of Los Angeles, he addressed parishioners and clergy, expressing gratitude for their prayers and support over the years.

“Thank you to all of you. It is a special blessing to be the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It’s an honor to serve all of you and all people of the archdiocese, and the other dioceses that I was before coming to Los Angeles,” Gomez said in his homily.

He referenced St. Augustine’s words on episcopal anniversaries: “For you, I am a bishop, with you I am a Christian.” Gomez said this sentiment reflected his own feelings about serving in Los Angeles and previously held roles.

Gomez spoke about faith as a journey taken together in friendship with Jesus and one another within the Church. He emphasized that each person is called to share their faith through daily life: “Our mission is to tell the world the Good News — the beautiful truth that Jesus Christ is alive!”

Reflecting on personal influences, he mentioned his devotion to Mary and Joseph instilled by his parents: “They both had such profound humility. They lived to serve God and the Church… I pray that I will do the same and that we all will do the same.” He concluded by inviting prayers for increased faith and intercession from Our Lady Queen of Angels.
