The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on May 15 that starting pitcher Blake Snell will not make his scheduled start on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels.
Snell had recently returned from the injured list after dealing with shoulder discomfort and made his first start of the season on May 9 against the Atlanta Braves. In that outing, he gave up four runs in three innings, resulting in a 12.00 earned run average for the season so far.
According to The Athletic’s Katie Woo, “The Dodgers are skipping Blake Snell’s turn in the rotation vs. the Angels.” No details have been provided regarding the reason for this decision. The announcement follows Snell’s recent activation and debut, where he did not appear to be at full strength.
Snell was initially expected to pitch in Single-A Ontario before an injury to Tyler Glasnow led to his immediate promotion back into the major league rotation. After one appearance with mixed results, he is now being scratched from his next scheduled game.
In place of Snell, Will Klein is likely to take over pitching duties for Friday’s game. Klein has experience as a long reliever and holds a 2.76 ERA over 12 appearances this season. Jack Dreyer may also be used due to his rest days and long-relief experience, while Wyatt Mills and Blake Treinen are other potential options if needed during different stages of the game.
