Representative Jimmy Gomez, who serves California’s 34th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed recent events and shared condolences through a series of posts on his social media account.
On December 14, 2025, Gomez commented on an incident that disrupted Hanukkah celebrations, stating: “What should have been a joyful first night of Hanukkah was shattered by this act of hatred. My heart is with the innocent people who were attacked, and the entire Jewish community mourning today. Antisemitism has no place in our world.”
Continuing his remarks the following day, Gomez posted another message related to Hanukkah and recent violence abroad: “Happy Hanukkah. As families gather and light the candles, my heart is with the victims and loved ones affected by the antisemitic attack in Australia. We must confront antisemitism wherever it appears. To everyone celebrating, may this Festival of Lights bring warmth,” on December 15, 2025.
Later that same day, Gomez expressed sorrow over the passing of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele: “I’m saddened and shocked by the loss of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele. Rob’s films shaped generations, and together they gave so much back to LA through their philanthropy & unwavering commitment to democracy. Our hearts are with their loved ones during this devastating time.”
Gomez has represented California’s 34th District since 2017 after replacing Xavier Becerra in Congress; he previously served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Born in Orange County in 1974 and currently residing in Los Angeles, Gomez graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
