Rep. Jimmy Gomez, who represents California’s 34th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several national issues on his social media account, including gun violence, housing policy, and the treatment of first responders.
On August 27, 2025, Gomez commented on a recent tragedy involving youth violence: “Another school shooting, this time in Minnesota. Two kids killed, others fighting for their lives. We know the solutions, but Republicans continually refuse to support common sense gun laws at the expense of our children and families.”
The following day, he announced a new speaker for an upcoming event focused on housing affordability: ” SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT We welcome @reppettersen, as a speaker at our National Housing Summit! As Co-Chair of the Congressional Real Estate & Yes In My Backyard Caucuses, she is dedicated to making housing more affordable for all.” The post highlights efforts within Congress to address challenges in housing access.
Later that evening on August 28, Gomez expressed concern over reports involving firefighters: “WTF. We’re arresting firefighters now?? Nobody cares who saves their home. Hey @DonaldTrump, would you cuff them if Mar-a-Lago was on fire?”
Gomez has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Xavier Becerra and previously represented constituents in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Born in Orange County in 1974 and currently residing in Los Angeles, Gomez holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
