Rep. Jimmy Gomez, representing California’s 34th district, is actively using his platform to address critical political issues. He succeeded Xavier Becerra in 2017 and has been vocal on matters concerning healthcare and economic policies, drawing from personal experiences and current governmental actions.
On May 3, 2025, Gomez shared a personal story about a significant healthcare challenge he faced at the age of seven: “When I was 7, I got pneumonia and was hospitalized for weeks. It nearly bankrupted my family. No one should face that.” This experience informs his efforts to advocate for Medicare for All, asserting that healthcare should be simple, affordable, and debt-free.
In another post dated May 3, 2025, Gomez criticized former President Trump’s economic policies, particularly focusing on tariffs: “How to destroy the economy in 100 days? Trump’s showing us in real time. “ He highlighted the impact of tariffs, which he claims result in higher prices and decreased shipments at the Port of Los Angeles, affecting families’ ability to afford essentials.
Additionally, on the same day, Gomez expressed gratitude towards his team of interns for their dedication and contributions: “Huge thanks to our incredible spring interns—Claire and Donovan in the DC office and Daniella and Anthony in the LA office—for all their hard work and service to the district.” His acknowledgement reflects his appreciation for young contributors and their service.
Gomez, 48, was born in Orange County and resides in Los Angeles. He obtained his BA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017 before taking office in Congress.
