Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 34th district, took to social media to express his views on recent legislative matters involving tax policies and healthcare. With a background in the California State Assembly and education from the University of California, Los Angeles, Gomez has been vocal about issues affecting working families and healthcare access.

On May 14, 2025, Gomez posed a question to Republicans via Twitter: “Just gave Republicans a choice: Are you for the babies or the billionaires? For working families—or the ultra-wealthy?” He encouraged followers to watch his opening remarks in the Ways and Means Committee where he criticized what he referred to as their “latest tax scam.”

Later that day, Gomez shared personal health information stating that he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes earlier this year. He highlighted the financial burden even with insurance coverage, saying “If Republicans let ACA tax credits expire, millions of people will lose access to life-saving meds.” He emphasized that reducing these credits would be “cruel.”

Continuing into the early hours in Washington D.C., Gomez tweeted about ongoing committee discussions concerning significant Medicaid cuts. He wrote: “It’s well past midnight here in DC, but I’m still in @WaysMeansCmte with @RepJudyChu fighting to stop the Republican tax scam.” He noted that Republicans were pushing for “$715 billion in Medicaid cuts—the largest in history—to give billionaires like Elon Musk another tax break.”

Gomez has been an active voice against policies he believes favor wealthy individuals at the expense of essential services for working families. Since assuming office after Xavier Becerra in 2017, Gomez has focused on advocating for accessible healthcare and equitable economic policies.
