Jimmy Gomez, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 34th district since 2017, has been vocal on social media regarding several political issues. His recent tweets have addressed concerns over tariffs, legislative checks and balances, and proposed changes to Medicaid.

On May 19, 2025, Gomez criticized the impact of former President Donald Trump’s tariffs on American families. He stated that “Trump’s tariffs = a tax on working families.” He emphasized that these tariffs are causing price increases in essential items such as diapers and groceries at major retail stores. According to Gomez, this policy does not affect China but instead burdens American consumers.

In another tweet dated May 20, 2025, Gomez expressed his support for Representative McIver following charges from Trump. He argued that “Trump’s charges are a direct attack on checks and balances.” Gomez asserted his solidarity with McIver and declared that no congressional member would be intimidated by Trump or his associates.

Later on May 20, Gomez commented on Trump’s legislative agenda involving Medicaid cuts. He accused Trump of returning to Capitol Hill to advocate for what he termed the “One Big Billionaire Bill,” which he claimed aims at “slashing Medicaid so the ultra-wealthy get another tax break.” He criticized Republicans for scheduling hearings at inconvenient hours to avoid public scrutiny and urged citizens to voice their opposition.

Jimmy Gomez was born in Orange County, California in 1974 and currently resides in Los Angeles. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2012 until his congressional appointment in 2017.
