WASHINGTON, DC – On May 24, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement marking one year since the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas:

“Today, we remember the horrific shooting that occurred in Uvalde, Texas, a year ago and claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers. Too many families in America understand the pain and trauma of gun violence. Days like this are becoming way too common in our nation. My heart aches for the victims who should still be alive today, the victims of Uvalde, especially.

“We cannot rest until we enact commonsense gun violence prevention legislation that stops our communities from becoming war zones. One of the first initiatives I joined in Congress was the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. Under the leadership of Congressman Mike Thompson, I’ve joined my colleagues in approaching Republicans and urging that they come to the table on these commonsense solutions to our nation’s gun violence epidemic.

“We cannot continue to sit by while lives get cut short from weapons that are meant to be on our battlefields. Every day we do nothing, we risk more violence in our communities. Americans want action on this issue, and I will always be an ally in Congress for those demanding that we curb gun violence and keep our people safe.”
