WASHINGTON, DC – On May 17, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) released the following statement in response to the North Carolina legislature’s veto override to enact a bill that will ban most abortions after twelve weeks:

“Yesterday, countless women in North Carolina saw their rights rescinded when Republicans in the state legislature banned abortion after 12 weeks. Beginning July 1, North Carolina will join a list of states that are shamelessly putting women’s lives at risk.

“This Republican campaign to impose harmful, draconian, and outrageous policies on women’s health care is only getting worse. The extremist Republican agenda against bodily autonomy is incredibly dangerous to women seeking abortion care and casts a dark shadow over our democracy.

“Every person should have access to the reproductive care they need when they need it. We must continue to fight injustices like these, and I will continue to call out immoral policies that threaten to undermine women’s fundamental freedoms.”
