The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has announced a new exhibition titled “Deep Cuts: Block Printing Across Cultures,” opening on October 28, 2025. The exhibition draws mainly from LACMA’s permanent collection and examines the ongoing revival and evolution of block printing, described as the world’s oldest and most adaptable technique for producing multiple images.
Unlike traditional exhibitions that focus on geography, time periods, or types of printing, “Deep Cuts” aims to connect these different approaches. According to the museum’s announcement, “Where traditional surveys have dissected the history of printing by geography, chronology, and typology, Deep Cuts bridges these silos to reveal more expansive, interconnected stories.”
The exhibition is curated by Erin Maynes, Associate Curator of Prints & Drawings at LACMA.
