Rep. Jimmy Gomez, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 34th district, shared a series of tweets addressing key issues on February 5 and 6, 2025. His comments focused on family leave policies, public safety during natural disasters, and the impact of executive orders on nonprofit organizations.

On February 5, Rep. Gomez highlighted the anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act, stating “The Family and Medical Leave Act turns 32 today—but it still doesn’t guarantee paid leave. Parents deserve time to care for their families or care for a sick loved one without losing pay or their job.” As Chair of the Dads Caucus, he expressed his commitment to expanding paid leave.

Later that day, Rep. Gomez addressed issues related to evacuation alerts during recent fires in Los Angeles. He tweeted “Millions of Angelenos got delayed, repeated, or unnecessary evacuation alerts during the LA fires—undermining public trust and safety.” He is seeking accountability from relevant authorities to prevent future occurrences.

On February 6, Rep. Gomez turned his attention to nonprofits affected by executive orders from former President Trump. He stated “Nonprofits are lifelines for our neighbors—providing health care, education, jobs.” After meeting with local leaders concerned about these impacts, he vowed to support their work and beneficiaries.
