Rep. Jimmy Gomez, who represents California’s 34th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several national issues in a series of posts on January 28, 2026.
In his first post at 02:08 UTC, Gomez commented on an incident involving Rep. Ilhan Omar: “Political violence is never acceptable. Someone thought assaulting Rep. Ilhan Omar at her own town hall would silence her. They were wrong.
She kept speaking because that’s who she is and that’s who Minnesota is. Wishing my friend @Ilhan strength and safety.”
Later that day, at 03:06 UTC, Gomez marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a statement: “Today we remember the six million Jews and millions of other victims whose lives were taken in the Holocaust.
We must confront antisemitism and all other forms of bigotry wherever they exist, and continue to speak out against hate.”
In another post at 19:55 UTC, Gomez responded to recent events involving law enforcement officers: “It should not have taken this long to remove these officers from the streets. Administrative leave is the bare minimum.
We need an independent investigation, and the officers responsible must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Gomez has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Xavier Becerra and previously worked in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Born in Orange County in 1974, he currently resides in Los Angeles and holds a degree from UCLA.
