Rep. Jimmy Gomez, who represents California’s 34th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, including criticism of public figures and concerns over federal food assistance during a government shutdown.
On October 31, 2025, Gomez posted: “All it takes is a Google search to realize that Kristi Noem is lying through her teeth.”
Later the same day, he commented on a court decision related to food assistance programs: “Federal judges just ruled what we’ve been saying all along: suspending SNAP during a shutdown is unlawful and cruel. Millions of families shouldn’t have to rely on the courts to keep food on the table. The administration must release the funds now.”
On November 1, 2025, Gomez provided information for those affected by uncertainties surrounding SNAP benefits during the ongoing government shutdown: “SNAP benefits are uncertain during the Republican shutdown, but food help is available. Our community takes care of each other. If the shutdown has you worried about food or SNAP/ CalFresh benefits, here are trusted local resources and food distributions across LA.”
Gomez has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Xavier Becerra and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Born in Orange County in 1974 and currently residing in Los Angeles, Gomez graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
