Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 34th district since 2017, recently addressed a range of issues on his social media account, including trade policy under former President Donald Trump, travel safety in Mexico, and law enforcement conduct.

On February 21, 2026, Gomez commented on recent tariff actions by former President Trump: “Trump’s own Supreme Court picks said most of his tariffs were illegal. So what did he do? He slapped on new 15% tariffs anyway, and now we’ll all pay higher prices. That’s how Trump handles losing. He makes working families pay.”

The following day, on February 22, Gomez shared guidance for travelers amid concerns in Jalisco, Mexico: “I’m closely monitoring the situation in Jalisco, Mexico. If you’re currently traveling in Mexico, follow all State Department guidance and stay in close contact with your loved ones back in the US. Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, STEP, to receive verified,”

On February 23, Gomez posted a comment regarding the FBI: “Somebody needs to tell this guy that FBI doesn’t stand for Frat Bro Initiation.”

Gomez has represented California’s 34th District since replacing Xavier Becerra in Congress in 2017 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Born in Orange County in 1974 and currently residing in Los Angeles at age 48, Gomez is an alumnus of the University of California, Los Angeles.
