Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 34th district since 2017, posted a series of tweets on January 24, 2026, criticizing the actions of former President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
In his first post at 00:14 UTC, Gomez stated: “Trump’s DHS is abducting children in broad daylight and expecting us to accept this as normal. NOTHING about this is normal.”
Later that day at 17:28 UTC, he wrote: “This is the direct result of Trump flooding Minnesota with armed, untrained agents that have no restraints and no other motive but to cause chaos.”
At 19:18 UTC on the same day, Gomez continued his criticism by posting: “No one is safe from Trump’s ICE and CBP. They lie about the facts to justify their actions, including killing someone.
– He approached them with a cell phone and not a gun in his hand.
– This was murder.
– Those involved with this killing must be prosecuted.”
Jimmy Gomez has served in Congress since replacing Xavier Becerra in 2017. Before his tenure in the House of Representatives, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Born in Orange County in 1974, Gomez currently resides in Los Angeles and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
