Rep. Jimmy Gomez, who represents California’s 34th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to criticize Republican leadership over recent disruptions at American airports and decisions regarding national security appointments.
On March 23, 2026, Gomez addressed ongoing airport issues and the government shutdown by stating: “Sending untrained ICE agents into America’s airports won’t solve the problem Republicans started, it’ll make things worse. Republicans hold the House, Senate, and White House. This shutdown is on them. Instead of causing more chaos, they need to work with Democrats to fund TSA.”
Continuing his criticism the following day, Gomez posted: “Next time someone blames Democrats for the chaos unfolding at our airports, show them this clip.” (March 24, 2026).
On March 25, 2026, Gomez commented on a Senate hearing involving a new appointment: “Watch the guy supposedly ‘skilled in reading people’ attempt to fight a witness in the middle of a Senate hearing. Oh yeah, and Republicans just made him our new Secretary of Homeland Security.”
Gomez’s comments come amid heightened partisan tensions during a period when Republicans control both chambers of Congress and the White House. The remarks refer to operational challenges at airports attributed by some lawmakers to lapses in Transportation Security Administration funding.
Since joining Congress in 2017 after replacing Xavier Becerra, Gomez has represented constituents from Los Angeles and surrounding communities.[1] Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017.[2] Born in Orange County in 1974 and currently residing in Los Angeles,[3] Gomez holds a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA.[4]
