Jimmy Gomez, serving in the U.S. Congress for California’s 34th district, has taken to social media to express a series of criticisms directed towards former President Donald Trump. Representative Gomez, an ardent critic of the Trump administration, highlighted various concerns, focusing on economic policies and immigrant treatment. Since 2017, Gomez has represented his district after succeeding Xavier Becerra and previously served in the California State Assembly.

On April 16, 2025, Gomez took issue with the complexities of former President Trump’s tariff policies. In a tweet, Gomez stated, “Trump’s own US Trade Rep doesn’t know how the hell his dumb tariffs were calculated. The math ain’t mathing!”.

Later that day, he critiqued Trump’s optimistic outlook on the nation’s current state, writing, “Trump says he’s ‘very happy’ with how the country’s doing. All while families are getting crushed by inflation, layoffs, and economic whiplash from his reckless trade wars. But he’s too out of touch to see it.”.

In another statement, Gomez addressed the issue of targeting immigrants, stating, “The IRS should never be weaponized to go after hardworking immigrants. I’m demanding answers from the Trump admin alongside @RepLindaSanchez and 45 colleagues on their plan to use taxpayer data to target hardworking immigrants. We won’t let them get away with it.”. Jimmy Gomez is known for his dedication to these topics, focusing on both economic policies and immigrant rights.

Jimmy Gomez was born in Orange County, California in 1974. He is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Gomez now resides in Los Angeles at age 48.
