Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 34th district, posted a series of tweets on January 24, 2026, criticizing law enforcement actions and expressing distrust toward federal authorities regarding a recent shooting incident.

In his first post at 19:32 UTC, Gomez questioned the conduct of a Customs and Border Protection official: “Why did CBP Commander Bovino only take two questions then abruptly shut down the press conference? Because he knows he can’t defend cold blooded murder.”

Shortly after, at 19:37 UTC, Gomez made another statement regarding those responsible for the incident: “Fuck this! These murders need to be in jail.”

Later that evening at 21:42 UTC, Gomez addressed actions taken by Minnesota state officials and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS): “Minnesota State officials (BCA) had a SIGNED warrant from an independent judge to investigate the shooting. DHS DENIED them access to the scene and said they would investigate themselves. This is unconstitutional and any conclusion DHS comes to can’t be trusted.”

Gomez has represented California’s 34th congressional district since replacing Xavier Becerra in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2017. Born in Orange County in 1974, Gomez resides in Los Angeles and holds a bachelor’s degree from UCLA.
