Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents California’s 37th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing issues related to Black maternal health and government accountability.
On April 17, 2026, Kamlager-Dove highlighted the story of Tatia Oden French during Black Maternal Health Week. She stated, “In 2001, Tatia Oden French and her baby died in the OR after she was given a drug not approved by the FDA, or the drug company, to induce labor. During #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, we shine light on stories like Tatia’s to advance reproductive justice and improve outcomes for Black”.
The following day, April 18, 2026, Kamlager-Dove addressed concerns about federal leadership in another post: “The FBI director is tasked with keeping Americans safe. Kash Patel is allegedly prioritizing partying over serving the American people and even missing meetings because he’s too hung over. Anyone else would be fired for his actions. It’s past time to fire him.”
Later that same day, she questioned the competency of an unnamed individual with a brief remark: “Is this dementia or is he just out of touch??”
Sydney Kamlager-Dove has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Karen Bass. Prior to her current role in Washington D.C., she was a member of both the California State Assembly from 2018 to 2021 and the California Senate from 2021 to 2023. Born in Chicago in 1972 and now residing in Los Angeles, Kamlager-Dove earned her BA from the University of Southern California in 1994.
