Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents California’s 37th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several topics on her social media account on January 31, 2026.
In her first post of the day, Kamlager-Dove informed constituents about a federal government partial shutdown. She wrote, “The federal government has gone into a partial shutdown. To learn more about what this means for you, visit my FAQ page. https://t.co/0DEBo7MUps” (January 31, 2026).
Later that evening, she expressed condolences following the death of Shirley Raines, known for her advocacy and service to unhoused residents in Los Angeles. Kamlager-Dove posted, “I am heartbroken by the passing of a true icon, Shirley Raines. Ms. Shirley made it her life’s mission to serve unhoused Angelenos with love. Her legacy of compassion will forever live on through all of us. May she be remembered as the angel that she was.” (January 31, 2026).
In a subsequent message referencing former President Donald Trump’s statements on economic issues, Kamlager-Dove wrote: “Trump: ‘Affordability is a Democrat hoax. The economy is great.’ Also Trump: https://t.co/61i3v5eGsj” (January 31, 2026).
Sydney Kamlager-Dove has represented California’s 37th District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Karen Bass. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly and Senate between 2018 and 2023. Born in Chicago in 1972 and currently residing in Los Angeles, Kamlager-Dove graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994.
