Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents California’s 37th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed housing affordability, law enforcement practices, and support for Black-owned businesses in a series of posts on social media.
On August 29, 2025, Kamlager-Dove highlighted concerns about rising housing costs and her efforts to find solutions. She wrote, “Everyone deserves a safe, affordable home where they can thrive—yet, the rent is too damn high! That’s why I met with financial institutions and developers to discuss ways to produce more affordable housing in LA to bring costs down.”
Two days later, on August 31, she commented on federal immigration enforcement in Los Angeles. In her post she stated, “If you want to talk about criminals and vagrants in Los Angeles, let’s start with the ICE agents you’ve deployed to terrorize and tear apart our community. And if we’re talking about trash, the biggest piece was removed and now works for the White House.”
Later that day, Kamlager-Dove shared her visit to a local business as part of Black Business Month celebrations. She posted: “I stopped by our very own South LA Cafe to celebrate Black Business Month this August! Not only did their fresh-ground coffee hit the spot—my conversation with Joe about the hustle, impact, and resilience of his Black-owned business left me inspired.”
Sydney Kamlager-Dove has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Karen Bass. Before her current role representing California’s 37th District—which includes parts of Los Angeles—she served in both the California State Assembly (2018-2021) and State Senate (2021-2023). Born in Chicago in 1972 and currently residing in Los Angeles, Kamlager-Dove graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in 1994.
