Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents California’s 37th district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to address issues ranging from maternal care in custody to cultural celebrations and personal tributes.
On May 9, 2026, Kamlager-Dove posted concerns about the treatment of pregnant women in detention facilities. She wrote, “I’ve been deeply disturbed by recent reporting about the lack of proper care for pregnant women in jails and ICE custody—stories of women being neglected, miscarrying after being denied care, and even being shackled. I’m proud to reintroduce the Pregnant Women in Custody Act,” highlighting her legislative efforts on this issue.
The following day, she marked Mother’s Day with a message recognizing various mother figures. On May 10, 2026, she stated: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, grandmas, aunties, and mother figures who care for and uplift us all! And of course, a special shout-out to my mom who keeps me grounded—and still keeps my potty mouth in check. We hope your days are filled with joy, love, and laughter.”
On May 11, 2026, Kamlager-Dove recognized Jewish American Heritage Month by writing: “Happy Jewish American Heritage Month! This month and every month, we celebrate the contributions of Jewish Americans. But it’s more than just my morning bagels and Sandy Koufax—we also honor the Jewish community’s perseverance. It’s an honor to represent such a vibrant, proud”.
Kamlager-Dove began serving as representative for California’s 37th district in 2023 after succeeding Karen Bass. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly (2018-2021) and Senate (2021-2023). Born in Chicago in 1972 and now residing in Los Angeles at age 50, Kamlager-Dove is an alumna of the University of Southern California.
