Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents California’s 37th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed the ongoing federal government shutdown and its impact on her constituents through a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On November 3, 2025, Kamlager-Dove wrote, “Each day Trump and Republicans prolong this shutdown, Angelenos like Alejandro risk losing vital lifelines like CalFresh. I’ll keep fighting to reopen the federal government AND protect health care for my constituents.” She referenced CalFresh, California’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), emphasizing concerns about residents’ access to essential services during the shutdown.
Later that same day, she commented further on SNAP funding, stating, “Grateful these funds are finally going out, but it shouldn’t take two court orders for Trump to do the right thing. And funding shouldn’t be partial—especially after Republicans cut $186 billion from SNAP. American families deserve better. End the shutdown & restore SNAP.”
The following day, Kamlager-Dove turned her attention to immigration enforcement agencies: “ICE and Border Patrol are out of control, and continue to be threats to public safety. How does a U.S. citizen asking ICE to disperse so schoolchildren can get to their bus stop without being scared devolve into ICE shooting them?? We need answers.”
Sydney Kamlager-Dove has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Karen Bass as representative for California’s 37th district. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly from 2018 to 2021 and the California Senate from 2021 to 2023. Born in Chicago in 1972 and now residing in Los Angeles, Kamlager-Dove graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in 1994.
Her recent statements reflect ongoing concerns over federal policies affecting nutrition assistance programs and public safety issues involving immigration authorities.
