Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents California’s 37th district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to criticize recent actions by former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers regarding the ongoing government shutdown and food assistance programs.
On November 5, 2025, Kamlager-Dove posted: “While Democrats are fighting for our communities, Trump just broke his own record for the longest government shutdown. Americans are suffering with rising food and health care costs. Republicans must end the shutdown.”
Later that day, she questioned rhetoric within the Republican Party with a pointed remark: “So you’re admitting there’s a ‘pro-Hitler’ wing of the Republican Party?” (November 6, 2025).
On November 6, Kamlager-Dove addressed inconsistencies in federal policy on nutrition assistance: “Two days ago, the Trump Administration said it would comply with two court orders and release SNAP emergency funds. Now, he’s contradicting his own Administration. Is Trump depriving hungry people of food assistance? Americans need their SNAP benefits and we need answers.”
Sydney Kamlager-Dove began serving as representative for California’s 37th congressional district in 2023 after succeeding Karen Bass. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly (2018-2021) and State Senate (2021-2023). Born in Chicago in 1972 and currently residing in Los Angeles, Kamlager-Dove graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in 1994.
