Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who represents California’s 37th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform to criticize recent Republican actions regarding emergency funding and federal law enforcement.
On October 30, 2025, Kamlager-Dove addressed Senator John Thune and former President Donald Trump in a post stating, “Spare me your crocodile tears, Sen. Thune. If there’s anyone you should be directing your anger towards, it’s your overlord Donald Trump—he’s illegally withholding emergency funding for SNAP and ordering you to not negotiate with Democrats. Those are the real political games.”
The following day, she posted about concerns over federal law enforcement: “Trump is creating a secret police force to deploy into and terrorize American cities as he pleases. I introduced an amendment to defund it in our annual defense spending bill, and Republicans wouldn’t even put it up for a vote. They are complicit in this assault on our freedoms.” This statement reflects ongoing debates over executive authority and congressional oversight.
Later that same day, Kamlager-Dove commented on budgetary decisions affecting food assistance programs: “You literally cut SNAP by $186 billion, boo”. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has been a recurring subject of partisan debate in Congress.
Kamlager-Dove began serving as the representative for California’s 37th district in 2023 after succeeding Karen Bass. She previously held positions in both the California State Assembly from 2018 to 2021 and the California Senate from 2021 to 2023. Born in Chicago in 1972 and now residing in Los Angeles, she earned her BA from the University of Southern California in 1994.
