Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow is expected to remain on the injured list beyond his initial 15-day stint, according to a May 14 announcement from the team. Manager Dave Roberts said that while Glasnow has started playing catch, there is no clear timetable for his return.
Glasnow’s absence matters as he was one of the team’s top pitchers before his injury, recording a 2.72 earned run average over nearly 40 innings. The team has indicated it will be cautious with his recovery and does not expect him back when eligible on May 23.
Roberts said, “The team is taking it easy on Glasnow,” and did not specify when he would throw off the mound again or rejoin the starting rotation. Instead, a possible return could come at the end of May or even in early June.
In Glasnow’s absence, Blake Snell has stepped into the rotation sooner than planned after returning from injury himself. Other pitchers including Emmet Sheehan, Roki Sasaki, and Justin Wrobleski are also getting extended opportunities in the starting lineup.
Before being sidelined with a back issue, Glasnow was considered one of the better pitchers in the National League this season and had been mentioned as a potential Cy Young candidate if healthy throughout the year. However, missing additional time could affect those chances.
As Los Angeles continues its season with around forty games played so far, Roberts said protecting their pitching depth remains a priority for the club.
