City of Los Angeles issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
Today is the last day! Las Posadas has been celebrated as a cultural tradition on #OlveraStreet since the 1930s.
In Spanish, las posadas mean inns or shelters and represent the journey of Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem and their search for protection.
Festivities include piñata breaking for the children & candlelight procession at the historic Avila Adobe in El Pueblo Historical Monument.
The nightly parade would wind through Olvera St. with the Merchants leading the group singing traditional hymns and holiday songs in English and Spanish.
