Dr. Anthony Culpepper has agreed to serve as Interim President at Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) beginning July 1. Dr. Culpepper, who is currently the Executive Vice President at Glendale Community College, has over 32 years of executive, management and academic leadership experience at public and private colleges and universities in vice provost, dean and professor roles.

Los Angeles Community College District Chancellor Francisco Rodriguez, Ph. D., said Dr. Culpepper possesses strong experience and skills in strategic planning and enrollment management, facilities, finance and budgeting.

A first-generation college graduate, Culpepper attended LASC and completed 37 units before receiving his associate’s degree from Long Beach City College. He went on to earn a bachelor of science degree from Cal State Dominguez Hills; then his master’s and doctoral degrees from Pepperdine University, and is now completing his law degree. Dr. Culpepper also holds three finance and accounting certifications.

Dr. Culpepper is excited about returning to the community where he was raised, stating, “I am a son of the community of Los Angeles.  My working-class parents moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of building a better life for themselves and their family. I am deeply committed to and look forward to serving the students and families of south Los Angeles.”

Dr. Culpepper’s appointment is scheduled to be ratified by the Board of Trustees at its July 6 meeting.

LASC President Dr. Seher Awan has been selected to be president at Mission College of the West Valley-Mission Community College District in Northern California.  Dr. Awan will continue to serve as president of LASC through June.
