WASHINGTON, DC -- On May 19, Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37) announced the winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for students in California’s 37th District. The Congressional Art Competition allows high school students to submit their original pieces for a chance to have their artwork displayed in the Capitol for a year. This year’s winner is 11th grader Haifa Maung of Culver City for her mixed-media piece, “Alienation.” Her piece explores the vulnerability of the human spirit and speaks to tones of struggle, strength, and tenacity.

“I am so glad to have served as the Vice Chair of the Congressional Art Competition this year and congratulate Haifa on her incredible accomplishment,” said Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove. “Some of our nation’s greatest student artists have won the Congressional Art Competition. Today, I am proud to highlight the incredible work of Haifa Maung in joining the ranks of these talented individuals. What I love most about this competition is that it speaks to the importance of arts education in our schools while allowing students to have their work featured in the halls of our democracy. I will always advocate for creativity, expression, and artistry in my district and in Congress.”
