Dear Friend,
Another busy week in the books! This week, I voted on policing legislation, voiced my concerns about the state of negotiations on our debt limit, called for George Santos to resign from Congress, and shared my vision to LEAD as Representative for CA-37.
POLICING LEGISLATION
This week was National Police Week in Washington. We considered several different pieces of legislation about the law enforcement community to show support for the men and women who protect us. However, House Republicans used this moment to force through divisive legislation about policing and failed to bring forward any legislation that would increase actual police accountability.
I spoke on the House Floor in opposition to H.Con.Res. 40. This resolution was a tactic used by the Republicans to stoke fear and division and does not promote support for our brave law enforcement officers or do anything to address public safety. Republicans incite inflammatory debates about “violent leftist” activists, but they should be looking to members of their own party who pedal truly dangerous extremist rhetoric, resulting in horrific events like the insurrection on Jan. 6.

DEBT LIMIT
On Monday, I spoke with Cassie Semyon from Spectrum News’ Inside the Issues to discuss the GOP plan for our debt limit. House Republicans have set us on a course for economic catastrophe. Secretary Yellen has made it clear that we need to get our act together and find a way to pay our financial obligations as a country. I hope that Republicans will put Americans first and present a plan that doesn’t slash the programs families depend on to survive.
GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY
House Republicans claim to be concerned with government accountability but fail to hold their own Members accountable. George Santos is a fraud who delegitimizes our entire body. He is doing nothing to serve his constituents. The faster he can go, the better. On Wednesday, Republicans decided to refer him to the House Committee on Ethics rather than do the right thing and expel him. They are forcing the American people to pay for a vote for their party.

LEADING IN THE 37TH
While the GOP’s vision for our nation is one of division and destruction, I have a vision that will benefit Angelenos and address their concerns. I want to LEAD in the 37th. In Congress, I want to focus on land, economic justice, the arts, and democracy. These four pillars will allow me to prioritize some of the most critical issues facing our country and push towards progress. I am here to serve you and hope to work on these issues alongside you to provide a better future for all of us.
