WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 30, 2023, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down President Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Plan and the decision to allow businesses to discriminate against LGBTQIA+ customers:

"The Supreme Court just forced a financial disaster on to 26 million Americans that will have devastating economic consequences, especially for first-generation students and people of color. This bogus lawsuit was funded and supported by the same elected officials and corporate billionaires who influenced the Court to take away women's bodily autonomy a year ago in the Dobbs decision. Today's decision along with the Supreme Court's other rulings this week, which include undermining LGBTQIA+ rights, show that it has lost legitimacy due to the judicial extremists currently on the court – it's time to expand the court and end the filibuster so we can defend basic freedoms. Our fight to create a more just and inclusive country is not over, it has just begun."
