On January 21, 2025, Rep. Gomez tweeted about his personal experience during the January 6th incident: "As someone who was trapped in the House Chamber on January 6th, I find President Trump’s pardons of those who attacked our democracy deeply insulting — and so should everyone else." He emphasized that these individuals were not mere tourists but were part of an attack where "Police officers died, and our democracy was under siege."

Later that day, he critiqued the stance of certain political groups by stating: "MAGA is all about law and order, except when it comes to insurrectionists that stormed the Capitol at their master’s bidding." This comment reflects his perspective on perceived inconsistencies within political rhetoric surrounding law enforcement.

In another tweet posted shortly after, Rep. Gomez commented on reactions to his statements: "Nothing brings out the trolls like speaking the truth about Jan 6th." He reiterated his view on the motivations behind the Capitol riot by stating: "A mob of insurrectionists tried to 'stop the steal' because their master told them to do it. Period."
