Jimmy Gomez, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 34th district, recently expressed his views on various political issues through a series of tweets. These statements were made in early March 2025 and reflect his positions on decisions made by former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk regarding federal workforce and economic policies.

On March 5, 2025, Gomez criticized plans reportedly endorsed by Trump and Elon Musk to reduce the IRS workforce by half. He stated that this move would "intentionally open the door to delaying and impacting everyday Americans' tax returns while allowing their billionaire buddies to continue dodging taxes." He summarized his concerns with the phrase: "Defund, Defraud, Deceive."

Later that day, Gomez addressed trade policy in another tweet. He differentiated between tariffs he supports and those he opposes by stating: "I'm not against all tariffs. I'm against DUMB tariffs." He suggested that Trump's recent enactment falls into the latter category.

In a subsequent post on March 5, Gomez described Trump's decision to impose a "90-day freeze on USAID" as reckless and illegal. He elaborated that it constituted "a humanitarian disaster" and undermined U.S. global leadership developed over decades. Furthermore, he emphasized the role of courts in checking executive power by asserting: "that’s literally their job, as written in the Constitution."
