Rep. Jimmy Gomez, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 34th district since 2017, shared his perspectives on recent legislative and political developments through a series of tweets on February 17, 2025. These tweets addressed issues ranging from voter rights to federal policies and data privacy concerns.

In a tweet posted at 00:57 UTC, Rep. Gomez criticized the GOP's proposed SAVE Act, stating that it "would require in-person proof of citizenship to vote or update your voter info—disenfranchising millions w/o a passport & married women whose birth certificates don’t match their legal name." He characterized the legislation as "voter suppression" and declared his intention to oppose it. Later that morning at 03:09 UTC, Gomez commented on statements made by Trump’s newly appointed Health and Human Services Secretary regarding support for a federal abortion ban. "Trump’s new HHS Sec. confirms he’d support a federal abortion ban—right after being told to look into restricting the abortion pill. When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

In another tweet at 03:33 UTC, Rep. Gomez issued a warning about Elon Musk's alleged intentions concerning personal financial information. He accused Musk of engaging in illegal activities and called for bipartisan action to prevent potential data leaks. Gomez emphasized that failure to act would implicate those who do not join efforts to counter these actions."This is a five-alarm warning. Elon Musk has been after your personal financial info from day one. His actions are illegal and a blatant power grab. The GOP majority must join Democrats to stop Musk from stealing taxpayer information. If not, they’ll be to blame for any leak,…"
