The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has announced that the construction of the David Geffen Galleries is entering its final phase. The scaffolding, which has been in place for four years, will soon be removed to reveal the full form of the new building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Peter Zumthor.

The building stretches 900 feet horizontally across Wilshire Boulevard and is intended to house LACMA's permanent collection. With nearly 90% of the construction already completed, major work on the project is expected to conclude by the end of 2024. In early 2025, LACMA plans to begin moving key operational functions into the new space.

"The last of the scaffolding will be removed from the David Geffen Galleries," a statement from LACMA confirmed. This marks a significant milestone for the museum as it nears completion of this ambitious architectural endeavor.
