Jimmy Gomez, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 34th district since 2017, took to social media to address various issues and opportunities impacting his constituents. The congressman frequently uses his platform to communicate policies and initiatives of interest to California's communities.
On April 18, 2025, Gomez expressed concern about the actions of former President Donald Trump, particularly regarding the dismantling of key agencies. He stated, "Did you know Trump’s been dismantling the very agencies that keep your kids safe and healthy? He’s cut health & education jobs, gutted food safety, and weakened protections for families. This isn’t politics—it’s our kids’ future. Tag a parent who needs to know." In this post, Gomez urged the public to consider the implications of these actions on children's futures.
Later the same day, Gomez turned his attention to the arts, addressing middle and high school students. He announced the nearing deadline for the Congressional Art Competition, which offers young artists the chance to have their artworks displayed in the U.S. Capitol. Gomez tweeted, " Attention middle & high school students! Want your artwork on display in the U.S. Capitol? There’s exactly one week left to enter the Congressional Art Competition! Don’t miss your chance! Deadline: Next Friday, April 25th Open to students in our district More." He encouraged students within his district not to miss this opportunity.
On April 19, 2025, Gomez voiced his opposition to tariffs introduced by Donald Trump, which he argues have increased the prices of essential goods. As a parent, Gomez emphasized the burden on families, stating, "As a dad, I see firsthand how Trump’s dumb tariffs are driving up prices on everyday essentials—shoes, diapers, baby wipes, toys. Basically, everything toddlers need. That’s why I’m fighting back in @WaysMeansCmte to stop these price hikes and help working families get ahead." He affirmed his commitment to working within the Ways and Means Committee to mitigate these pricing challenges.
Gomez, aged 48, was born in Orange County, California, in 1974, and currently resides in Los Angeles. He is an alumnus of the University of California, Los Angeles.
