On April 8, 2025, Rep. Gomez criticized the tariffs imposed during Trump's administration, stating, "Trump’s dumb tariffs are squeezing working families and hurting our economy." Gomez also challenged Congressional Republicans, urging them to choose between supporting Trump or their constituents and noting that parents should not bear financial burdens due to what he described as "Trump’s BS."
Later that day, he continued his critique, focusing on job cuts and program reductions allegedly linked to Trump and Elon Musk. Gomez claimed, "Trump and Elon Musk are cutting jobs and dismantling critical programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, just as working families are hit with skyrocketing costs for food, childcare, and housing."
Reiterating his perspective, Gomez posted an identical tweet at a later timestamp, accusing the two of launching "a direct attack on those who can least afford it."
